Who we are

Christoph hails from the Great North (aka Northern MN). Taryn's a prairie dweller from central Illinois. Taryn has had a life-long love for candles! Especially the cinnamon-inspired kind. The curl up by a fire, watch the snow fall outside, and read a good book - kind of candle. Christoph finds Taryn's love of candles rather amusing. They are both creative souls. Christoph, a wood-turner and musician. Taryn, a writer and perpetual crafter. Hence, their gifts are a perfect match!

Every Great North candle is made out of our home in Duluth, Minnesota, nestled near Amity Creek and the Lester River. While pouring candles, you may find us singing and dancing to our favorite new tune. And if it's after the kids go to bed, we'll be enjoying a favorite podcast or audio book - which the youngin's find boring!

We strive to be as eco-conscious as possible, in our work and our play. We recycle, repurpose, and reduce as much waste as we can - while still curating a candle that gives you all the feels! The warm and cuddly, the invigorated and inspired, the relaxed and calm.

Our candles

We use 100% American Grown Soy Wax. Soy wax is a more environmentally conscious and locally sourced product than some alternatives such as paraffin or palm wax. Plus, there really aren't very many palm trees in Minnesota.

Our candles are hand poured with care in our home in Duluth, Minnesota often to the sound of music, laughter, and the occasional barking of our two dogs.

You'll notice all of our candles are beautiful creamy shades of near white to warm yellows. This is the natural color of the wax and fragrance oils together. All candles are dye-free. We like it natural and simple.

We currently only carry our line in pint (16 oz) sized square mason jars, which are also American made. However, we are more than happy to work with you on custom orders if you have another size in mind.

Our wicks are manufactured in Germany, assembled in the US, and are zinc & lead free.

To help with their identity, the candles are tied with an assortment of decorations such as raffia, strips of fabric, ribbons, or anything else that may be laying around. Our decorations may vary and we love to reuse and re-purpose materials for decorations.

Bulk & Wholesale

From time to time, we offer special deals and discounts on our Great North candles. However, you can always count on a discount for bulk orders of 1 case or more.

BULK: For orders of 12 candles or more, get a 15% discount. (12 candles = 1 case, or $216). Simply put the code BULK12 in at checkout.

WHOLESALE: For vendors interested in wholesale orders, below are a few details…

  • The wholesale cost of our candles is $12.00 for a 16 oz jar.

  • Currently, our retail cost is $18. We kindly ask that you do not price GNCC candles higher than this.

  • A minimum wholesale order is 36 candles, or 3 cases.

  • We currently offer 16 oz. mason jars. However, we are open to different sizes depending on the number you need.

  • We are happy to experiment with different oil varieties in creating a scent especially for your guests and patrons.

  • Depending on the number of cases ordered, we will do our best to have your candles available in 1-2 weeks.
